TOM TROKEY
YOUTH DIRECTOR
8th Grade Elite Black
Coach Tom started playing basketball in 3rd grade and continued throughout his college years. Coach Tom grew up in Missouri , lived in Minnesota for 20 years and recently moved to California 3 years ago. For the last 20 years he has coached teams from youth developmental to Varsity High School levels. Coach Tom brings a coaching style of high energy, positive motivation and a builder of self-confidence. He believes and teaches if you want to be a better player you have to be fundamentally sound, that everything in the game comes from fundamentals, they are the roots of the game. That basketball is a learning experience just like life, to be enjoyed and that a key to each success is preparation both physically and mentally. With a shout praise, whisper criticism approach he inspires self-esteem, confidence and belief. Coach Tom’s favorite game statement is “ITS TIME TO ROCK N ROLL! He believes JOHN WOODEN said it best “What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a basketball player”. |

MICAELA MEDINA
ALBUQUERQUE COACH
6th Grade Elite
Coach Medina began playing basketball at the age of 5. By the time she was 8 years old, she was playing on a competitive AAU basketball team, which she continued to play for 8 more years.
During her freshman and sophomore years of high school she attended Belen High School, where she played at the varsity level for both years. As a freshman, she received the All-District honorable mention, and as a sophomore, she was an All-District 1st team, while leading her team to its first State Tournament appearance in 5 years.
Coach Medina transferred to Del Norte High School her junior and senior year. As a junior she received the All-District 1st team, and the All Metro 3rd team. She led her team to its first State Tournament in over 20 years, losing to the 1st place team in the Elite Eight. As a senior she again received the All-District 1st team, and the All Metro 1st team. She again led my team to the State tournament, but again falling to the 1st place team in the Elite Eight.
Coach Medina received all Academic Honors along with being Female Athlete of the Year of Del Norte High School.
Coach Medina attended Western New Mexico University where she played on a basketball scholarship. At the end of that year she unfortunately had an injury that ended her playing career in her sophomore year of college.
She then became a manager for the WNMU football team where she was exposed to many different coaching strategies from everyone on the coaching staff.
While attending WNMU I have received my minor in Coaching.
Coach Medina is a junior in college and transferring to UNM. She currently is the Los Lunas High School Girls Varsity Assistant Coach.
I has coached many Los Lunas League basketball teams along with helping my father coach a competitive 13U girls AAU team.
All through her elementary, middle school, high school and AAU years, she played under one of the most respected coaches in New Mexico, David Medina. All she has learned about coaching and playing basketball came from him, along with her coaching philosophy.
Coach Medina coaching philosophy will never be will at all costs; she wants her players to function as a positive contributor to our society, family, classroom as well as our basketball program. She ask her players to be respectful, both on and off the court, as well as doing a proficient job in the classroom. As a player they will be aggressive, hard nosed, team players. She expects her players to give their best effort at all times and fulfilling their roles as determined by the coaching staff. |

DELFIN D. QUINTANA
SANTA FE COACH
8TH Grade Elite
I have 19 years as a Law Enforcement Officer, and through my time in Law Enforcement I wanted to be a positive role model for our youth. I wanted to interact with the youth so they would see me in a different light than a Police Officer. Six years ago I decided to get into coaching basketball it has been one of the most fulfilling decisions that I ever made. I know I have made a difference in some kid’s lives already. It is awesome to teach kids that want to learn the sport of Basketball, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. As I explain to my kids life is a lot like sports, full of up’s and downs. Learning to pick yourself up and keep working toward your goals is where it’s at.
